Making a pillow cover. From the concrete sack that I found in the first shop. I showed you probably a couple months ago now how to make a pillow insert from the drop cloth. So basically, the reason for showing you that tutorial is sometimes you want to make a pillow cover, that's kind of an odd shape and you need something to fill it with and the reason I was making it for the tutorial is, I found a concrete sack at A thrift shop that I really really liked and when to make a pillow from and it was kind of an odd shape. So I needed to make a custom answer. So I showed you how to do that and now I'm ready to show you how I'm going to transform the concrete sack into a pretty pillow cover for our home. So I turned the concrete sack inside out and then took out with my seam ripper, the original seam that was kind of wonky and put in a nice straight seam to correct it.
I took some leftover linen from my DIY girls, pinafore apron that I showed you guys how to make a few months ago, and I cut four strips thirty inches by one and a half inches wide. I folded them in half down the long edge and sewed them all the way down on my machine now, as you can see here, I fold it under one end for each strip, I put a safety pin in one edge and push the linen strip all the Way out to hide the raw edges inside and then when I pulled it out, you can see the finished edge on one end. Like you see here, I pressed the seam flat and then top stitched all the way around. Now top stitch is just a stitch that is used to make something look pretty and crisp, so it doesn't really serve a purpose to hold anything together. It just makes it look really nice, as you can see here.
Next, I measured the grain sack and saw that it was just under 14 inches wide, so I place a set of ties. Four inches inside the sack from each side, so they'd be sort of centered and divided in thirds I folded the ends under so the raw edge would be kind of facing the case and then just sewed them in place. I kind of did a double stitch on each one, so I knew they'd be nice and secure. Next, I just stuffed it with my drop cloth, This is how I made this concrete sack and some leftover strips of linen - that I use in a previous project to make this pretty delicate, pillow cover that will look nice and many rooms in our home.
